Question
What is the practical range with the attached IR illuminator. I am looking for something to help with night hog hunts at 100 yards or less.
From Rolando on Sep 16, 2014
Answer
Armasight Prime DC 4x will provide you visibility to about 75 yards, but it maybe hard to tell if it is a hog or another large animal at the far end of this range. Much depends on the ambient light. The IR that comes with the unit will probably not be enough for 100 yard range if it is really dark. You would need a powerful IR illuminator to supplement. A better option for this specific task is probably this Sightmark monocular: http://www.nightvisionguys.com/ghost-hunter-5x60-night-vision-monocular. But even that you may need to supplement for darker nights.
Question
What is the light amplification of this unit, for example 500x, 1000x? How much moon illumination is required to see without the infrared illuminator turned on, for example, full moon, 1/2 moon, 1/4 moon? Will the unit work with rechargeable RCR123A Lithium-Fe-PO4 (3.0/3.2 volt) battery?
From greg flugum on Jan 16, 2015
Answer
Hi Greg. Typical Gen1 device amplifies light up to 500-1000 times. Even with a 1/4 moon you will be able to see with this device. However, the brighter the ambient light the brighter and clearer the image is going to be. As far as batteries, you should speak to Armasight and get from them recommendations for rechargeable batteries so your warranty is not impacted if the unit gets damaged.
Question
Firefield Nightfall 2 5x50 Night Vision Monocular. is this the best?? im looking for a wide field of vue.
From WILLIAM RUSSO on Feb 24, 2015
Answer
Hi William. How far do you need to see at night? The more magnification you have on the night vision device the less is your field of view. Please let us know your desired distance and what type of objects you will be observing so we can suggest the best night vision monocular for your purpose.
