Firefield 3x42 Gen 1 Night Vision Riflescope
Made from a state of the art titanium body, the Firefield 2.5x50 Titanium Varmint Hunter NVRS is rugged, durable and lightweight. Powerful 2.5x magnification combined with the incredible light gathering capabilities of the f/1.4 objective lens puts this scope in a class that's perfect for hunters, law enforcement or military applications. The luminous red duplex reticle is adjustable via standard internal click-stops. Reticle brightness can be adjusted or completely turned off, a useful feature for when the eyepiece has been converted to the optional camera adapter. The included remote activation switch can be situated anywhere, depending on the task at hand. The built in IR illuminator, which features Firefield's exclusive Pulse technology, extends the low or no light viewing capabilities of the scope. The Pulse IR system provides higher levels of IR illumination without significant battery drainage. There are many different variables that affect the distance that one can see with a night vision device, among them the object's size, the level of details being sought from the object and the conditions of observation. Night vision devices detect much further under a full moon and clear skies than they will under a new moon and cloudy skies. Many different formulas are used to determine the statistic of maximum viewing range and the method of calculation varies by manufacturer. The important factors to consider when evaluating any night vision device are the intensifier tube's generation, s/n ratio, level of magnification, specified resolution, along with the clarity & light transmission efficiency of the optical system.

Gen 1 Night Vision
1st generation is currently the most popular type of night vision in the world. Utilizing the basic principles described in detail in our guide, a 1st generation unit will amplify the existing light several thousand times letting you clearly see in the dark. These units provide a bright and sharp image at a low cost, which is perfect, whether you are boating, observing wildlife, or providing security for your home. You may notice the following when you are looking through a 1st Gen. unit. A slight high-pitched whine when the unit is on. The image you see may be slightly blurry around the edges. This is known as Geometric Distortion. When you turn a 1st Gen. unit off it may glow green for some time. These are inherent characteristics of a 1st Gen. unit and are normal.

excellent product
It sighted very well right out of the box, tried it at 75 ft in total darkness with a .177 caliber high velocity rifle with a silencer. It worked very well just with ambient light from stars, moon, etc, there was a small round spot when using the infrared illuminator but it was inferior to the target sight and did not interfere with accuracy. It may have occurred when I accidentally opend the kitchen light with the scope cover open. I plan on using it around my ranch and am overall very happy with the product.
