Thermal Imaging
Please note that most thermal devices are built per order. It may take 3-5 days or more for your order to ship. If timely shipping is important to you, please, contact us to verify availability prior to ordering.
Thermal devices can produce various types of images. Some are color others are monochrome. In either case change in shade or color indicates temperature differences.
Here is how thermal imaging devices work...
A special lens focuses the infrared light emitted by all of the objects in view.
The focused light is scanned by a phased array of infrared-detector elements. The detector elements create a very detailed temperature pattern called a thermogram. It only takes about one-thirtieth of a second for the detector array to obtain the temperature information to make the thermogram. This information is obtained from several thousand points in the field of view of the detector array.
The thermogram created by the detector elements is translated into electric impulses.
The impulses are sent to a signal-processing unit, a circuit board with a dedicated chip that translates the information from the elements into data for the display.
The signal-processing unit sends the information to the display, where it appears as various colors depending on the intensity of the infrared emission. The combination of all the impulses from all of the elements creates the image.
There are a few key Manufacturers when it comes to thermal imaging.
ATN: produce such well knows devies as ThOR-HD thermal scope, BINOX-THD thermal binoculars, and OTS-HD thermal monocular.
FLIR/Armasight: the largest maker of consumer level thermal products is well knows for their full product line. Zeus thermal scopes, Q14 and Scout monoculars, Helios and Scout binoculars and many more.
Pulsar: a very popular brand for digital night vision and thermal imaging. Key products include Pulsar Trail and Apex thermal scopes and Pulsar Helion and Quantum thermal monoculars.
Seek: mobile device mounted thermal cameras are the main products of this brand.
Delivery Time and Manufacturing Process for SPI T14X Thermal Scope:
Most of our manufacturers do not keep products like SPI T14X Thermal Scope assembled on the shelf. Night Vision tubes are kept separate from the body of the unit. When the order is placed, the manufacturer starts the order processing and assembly process which includes the following:
- Order processing - we collect all the necessary information including address and phone numbers. We also make sure that our customer ordered the correct product for their needs and that the product can be exported by US law to the country of destination. In some cases a signed export compliance form is required.
- QC - in this step the manufacturer will inspect all individual parts which will be used to assemble the night vision device for any defects.
- Production & Assembly - during production, all the parts are put together. Night Vision tubes in inserted into the body of the unit and all the complex electronics for the device are connected. This process takes place in a special lab called the "clean room" as even a small speckle of dust can cause undesired optical effect.
- QA - one the night vision device is assembled, it goes through a rigorous testing process to make sure it meets all the expected specifications and all parts function as expected. For this most manufacturers have a special "dark room" designed to allow testing of the units without causing incidental damage to the night vision tube by exposure to bright light.
- Packaging - this is a key process as well. In most case your night vision device will be shipped to you directly from the manufacturer but sometimes needs to be sent to us first. In either case items need to be packaged securely to avoid any kind of damage during transportation.
- Shipping - as described above items will most of the time ship from the manufacturer. For most domestic orders (unless shipping to POB or AFB) a premium shipper like FedEx or UPS will be used.
Only by following the above steps can we along with our manufacturers bring you - our customer - night vision products of highest quality, However as you can understand the above process can take several days to complete. For example if your device fails QA, the entire process restarts. Also at QC stage a manufacturer may realize that the tube they have in stock has a defect and a replacement tube needs to be ordered. Due to the complexity of this process, it is prudent to expect 3-4 business days for production and handling of the purchased device. Keep in mind that this process is designed to guarantee your satisfaction with the night vision device of your choice. It occasionally possible to expedite the process for urgent orders but addional fees or other restrictions may apply.

Disappointed
To Start With ,This has nothing to do with the Night vision Guys Because they are Awesome. I Have 2 T-14 Thermal Scopes I Do Use 1 of them all the time for a spoting Scope all the time because the Magnification is so Low it has a Wide field of view. I can't use the other 1 because the plastic battery door broke and SPI will Not Fix It because they say they don't have any Parts. Make No mistake, I believe that the Magnification seems to be about 1.5 Power and that makes shooting a pig at 100 yards difficult. Not to mention that you can't shoot anything more powerful than a .223 or the unit will lock up and you will have to go through the 30 second boot up to be able to see again. You can Not Shoot on the 2X Power because the reticle will move and SPI will even Tell you 2X is not For shooting. 3 inch Groups at 100 yards? Yes That is Pretty Easy But My AR-10 308 with a Zeus, I Shoot 1/2" at 100 and have taken pigs at 356 and 500 yards an 200 yards is easy. They don't tell you to make sure you don't let the eye piece get exposed to the any sun light for even a split second or it will fry the screen like a ant with a magnifying glass. I Know because I had to send mine in to SPI the first week I had It to get the screen replaced. I don't think i Exposed it to direct sunlight but I did have it out on a Bright Texas Summer Day. SPI was Nice Though they Said they Would Only Charge me $200 to Fix the Screen instead of the regular $400, They really were nice, so I do Thank Them for that But I Don't even think of taking it out of it's case if the Sun is Bright. It Does Use Batteries Pretty Fast But I Use 4 Sets of Rechargeable Batteries and I can Make It through the Night.

AWESOME
This scope is awesome! For the price it can't be beat. It does everything it says. @ 100yrds I can get 3'' groups. The only negatives of the scope is that it goes through batteries quick, 1hr run time at most. Also it doesn't come with any instructions at all. But it is pretty easy to learn the operation. In general for the money it is an awesome deal.

Question
I was wondering how this compares to it hunter and if this is as good a scope as it sounds. I am new to this and have been reading a lot and still don't know what to do. Will be shooting hogs coyotes etc 100-200 yds. The resolution is my main concern. Ant advice is greatly appreciated . Thankyou mike
From Mike on Nov 14, 2014
Answer
SPI T14X is a decent scope and will certainly provide you with enough power to handle 200 meter range. However, in my opinion ATN ThOR has a more reliable and robust construction and better warranty. And you get the same functional capabilities for less money: http://www.nightvisionguys.com/thermal-rifle-scopes/atn-thor-336-1-5x-60hz-thermal-weapon-sight.
Question
Hi I would like to know what are your laws regarding the export of thermal weapon sights to South Africa. I manage a small private nature reserve and I am looking to upgrade from using night vision to thermal imaging for anti poaching and security purposes. Thermal imaging is available here, but at astronomical prices. I like the idea of a weapon sight because it can also be used as a hand held monocular, if needed. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Dean
From Dean on Nov 28, 2014
Answer
Hi Dean. Thermal riflescopes are not exportable. However we do have thermal clipon adapters which convert any daytime optic into a thermal imaging device. Is that something of interest? Please let us know we can provide further details.
Question
I want to buy a night vision thermal scope for my husband, I can't find reviews on this one. My question is if he does not like this can it be returned?
From Jackie on Jan 12, 2015
Answer
Hi Jackie. I would not suggest this specific unit for such a situation. SPI is very difficult with returns and they don't really have much of an upgrade option. You are better of going with a similar level model from Armasight or ATN. If you respond with a phone number and best time one of our sales guys can call you and give you advantages of each as well as work out the best deal.
Question
In looking at the specs three numbers appear to be absent that are pretty important in determining what you are buying... Sensor Resolution, Display / Output resolution and field of view. Do you have these numbers?
From Milan on Jan 26, 2015
Answer
Hi Milan. Unfortunately SPI is not giving us these numbers. Can you tell us a bit about your plans for the units in terms of what type of weapon it will be used on, how far do you plan to shoot with it, how large will the targets be. With such information in hand we will be able to recommend the best product and best value.
Question
Hi What is the maximal recoil it can take? I would like to use in on a Blaser r8 straight pull rifle shooting it at caliber 30.06. I have heard it could take up to .30 caliber rounds.
From Thijs on Apr 06, 2016
Answer
Hi Thijs. I think at 30-06 you would be pushing the limit. What is the best way for one of our product experts to get in touch with you? We like to layout all pros and cons of different models to make sure you pick the right product for your needs.
