The XGen Digital Night Vision Monocular from Night Owl Optics is a lightweight and cost-effective digital night vision monocular useful around the home or in the wild. User-selectable illumination settings provide multiple infrared illuminator and frame rate configurations, each suited for a different application. The five preprogrammed settings combine different IR output levels and frame rates to provide a range of exposure levels for various lighting conditions. A faster frame rate is preferable when viewing moving subjects; slower rates provide brighter images but will not render motion as well. A built-in infrared illuminator enables operators to see up to 70 yards away in complete darkness. The lightweight housing, three foot minimum focus distance, and user-friendly interface make the XGen a practical night vision device for hunters and homeowners.

Will the xgen monocular see stars? Can not seem to find anything about this.

Hi Will. XGEN like any other night vision device amplifies ambient light . As a result it certainly will see stars but it will not give you the type of effect that I think you are looking for. Most people who use night vision for star gazing and UFO observation use high end Gen 2 or Gen 3 devices. It is absolutely amazing how sky looks through higher end night vision devices.
Question
Is this adequate for spotting wildlife in the woods behind my house? Edge of the wood line is about 80-100 feet to the rear of my house...I don't need to see way into the woods, just along the wood line..I'm watching for coyotes..thank you for any information..

Hi Sure. Most likely you will be able to see that something is there but not a lot of detail. The clarity on these basic Gen 1 units is simply not great. Armasight Spark is probably the cheapest monocular which will offer you a clear image at that range.
