Gen 1 Night Vision
1st generation is currently the most popular type of night vision in the world. Utilizing the basic principles described in detail in our guide, a 1st generation unit will amplify the existing light several thousand times letting you clearly see in the dark. These units provide a bright and sharp image at a low cost, which is perfect, whether you are boating, observing wildlife, or providing security for your home. You may notice the following when you are looking through a 1st Gen. unit. A slight high-pitched whine when the unit is on. The image you see may be slightly blurry around the edges. This is known as Geometric Distortion. When you turn a 1st Gen. unit off it may glow green for some time. These are inherent characteristics of a 1st Gen. unit and are normal.

Question
Upon using, how far can i see at night
From Frank on Sep 24, 2015
Answer
hi Frank. ATN Night Trek 5x is a gen1 night vision monocular. As such it has a range of about 75 yards. The exact range depends on the available ambient light. In open field with full moon you will see farther while in the dark heavy woods you will see less. Please let us know if you have any questions. Also, don't forget hat we have a 30 days return policy.
Question
Would this be good for someone who plays airsoft in a wooded area at night?
From Kevin on Dec 14, 2015
Answer
Hi Kevin. It depends on how you are thinking of using this night vision monocular. If you are looking for something you can use as a hands free goggle, then this is not the right device. If you want to use it as a hand held monocular to spot someone/something in 50-70 yards range then this is the right device. Please let us know how you envision using it so we can suggest the best night vision device for the purpose.
