The newly released in 2016 REAP-IR thermal scope features a 12° field-of-view with the 2.5x magnification and 20x digital magnification. When combined the 12um micron LWIR thermal core and digital OLED display make for outstanding image quality. An integrated stadiametric range finder on the REAP-IR allows you to quickly determine distance to your targets. An additional feature is the 60hz fast frame rate that is extremely helpful when leading a shot or for fast moving targets.
Other features include multiple reticle save locations that allows the REAP-IR to be moved between different weapons without the need of sighting in every time. An easy to use digital read out allows the operator to quickly make any changes and choose different options. The read out also displays the current reticle positions for ballistic calculations and sighting in. Operators have the choice of five different reticle patterns and polarity options to best fit their needs and preferences. An easy to use thumb stick makes operating the mini thermal sight simple even in dark conditions and a flip-up lens cap protects the lens when not being used. The mini thermal sight can be used as a stand-alone system or in front of your day optics for added versatility. Mini D-Loc Picatinny Rail mount and battery extender are included with the system and an optional video output cable is available. With our full processing ability we provide you with the most clear reticles and symbols. Not only do we have the clearest image but we are doing this with MOA accuracy.
Mini DLOC Mount
The DLOC-IRD true return to zero quick release mount is a miniaturized and skeletonized variation of the very popular A4S DLOC line of optics and accessory mounts. The DLOC-IRD quick release mount is the only TRUE return to zero mount available for the IR Patrol M300w. The DLOC-IRD also grabs more rail than competing mounts, and the DLOC patented design makes it the most accurate quick release mount on the market. The DLOC-IRD can be used across multiple platforms including mil-spec, and out of spec picatinny rails without the need to adjust for tension. If you have ever wanted to move your IR Patrol on and off your weapon without the need to re-zero then this is the mount for you. With the DLOC-IRD you can now maintain true accuracy.
Even in adverse weather conditions such as rain and fog the REAP-IR will still detect and identify a target. The image above was captured in dense fog with over 95% humidity.
Edge Detect Mode
Not only can you save 4 weapon sight reticle locations and 4 clip-on scene locations, but each one of those locations will give you a simple X and Y value for as many locations as you need. This means that you can set up a REAP-IR on as many weapon systems as you want and always maintain a return to zero.
Most thermal weapon sights come with only one level of white hot and black hot. Some come with color pallets, but the majority of users find themselves using black hot and white hot exclusively. Rather than giving you color pallets that you will most likely never use, IR Defense designed the IR Hunter with 3 levels of white hot, and 3 levels of black hot. This allows you to choose the perfect level of polarity in the white hot or black hot modes for any situation.
The IR Hunter features an extremely benefitial technology called Enhanced Target Recognition, or ETR. Most thermal systems auto adjust the image contrast and brightness across the entire display screen. This can lead to washed out image around the crosshair or for a majority of the display area. ETR selects the are on the display to adjust leaving you with a perfectly adjusted image.
Digital focus control allows you to not only focus your picture to the optimum setting, but it also allows sharpening of the entire picture. This technology will make a 320x240 appear more like a 640x480. For a detailed look at what DFC can do to image quality look at the image below. This image is raw, unedited, and is not a simulation

Thermal Imaging
Please note that most thermal devices are built per order. It may take 3-5 days or more for your order to ship. If timely shipping is important to you, please, contact us to verify availability prior to ordering.
Thermal devices can produce various types of images. Some are color others are monochrome. In either case change in shade or color indicates temperature differences.
Here is how thermal imaging devices work...
A special lens focuses the infrared light emitted by all of the objects in view.
The focused light is scanned by a phased array of infrared-detector elements. The detector elements create a very detailed temperature pattern called a thermogram. It only takes about one-thirtieth of a second for the detector array to obtain the temperature information to make the thermogram. This information is obtained from several thousand points in the field of view of the detector array.
The thermogram created by the detector elements is translated into electric impulses.
The impulses are sent to a signal-processing unit, a circuit board with a dedicated chip that translates the information from the elements into data for the display.
The signal-processing unit sends the information to the display, where it appears as various colors depending on the intensity of the infrared emission. The combination of all the impulses from all of the elements creates the image.
There are a few key Manufacturers when it comes to thermal imaging.
ATN: produce such well knows devies as ThOR-HD thermal scope, BINOX-THD thermal binoculars, and OTS-HD thermal monocular.
FLIR/Armasight: the largest maker of consumer level thermal products is well knows for their full product line. Zeus thermal scopes, Q14 and Scout monoculars, Helios and Scout binoculars and many more.
Pulsar: a very popular brand for digital night vision and thermal imaging. Key products include Pulsar Trail and Apex thermal scopes and Pulsar Helion and Quantum thermal monoculars.
Seek: mobile device mounted thermal cameras are the main products of this brand.
Delivery Time and Manufacturing Process for Trijicon IR Defense REAP-IR 640 35mm Mini Thermal Sight and Clipon:
Most of our manufacturers do not keep products like Trijicon IR Defense REAP-IR 640 35mm Mini Thermal Sight and Clipon assembled on the shelf. Night Vision tubes are kept separate from the body of the unit. When the order is placed, the manufacturer starts the order processing and assembly process which includes the following:
- Order processing - we collect all the necessary information including address and phone numbers. We also make sure that our customer ordered the correct product for their needs and that the product can be exported by US law to the country of destination. In some cases a signed export compliance form is required.
- QC - in this step the manufacturer will inspect all individual parts which will be used to assemble the night vision device for any defects.
- Production & Assembly - during production, all the parts are put together. Night Vision tubes in inserted into the body of the unit and all the complex electronics for the device are connected. This process takes place in a special lab called the "clean room" as even a small speckle of dust can cause undesired optical effect.
- QA - one the night vision device is assembled, it goes through a rigorous testing process to make sure it meets all the expected specifications and all parts function as expected. For this most manufacturers have a special "dark room" designed to allow testing of the units without causing incidental damage to the night vision tube by exposure to bright light.
- Packaging - this is a key process as well. In most case your night vision device will be shipped to you directly from the manufacturer but sometimes needs to be sent to us first. In either case items need to be packaged securely to avoid any kind of damage during transportation.
- Shipping - as described above items will most of the time ship from the manufacturer. For most domestic orders (unless shipping to POB or AFB) a premium shipper like FedEx or UPS will be used.
Only by following the above steps can we along with our manufacturers bring you - our customer - night vision products of highest quality, However as you can understand the above process can take several days to complete. For example if your device fails QA, the entire process restarts. Also at QC stage a manufacturer may realize that the tube they have in stock has a defect and a replacement tube needs to be ordered. Due to the complexity of this process, it is prudent to expect 3-4 business days for production and handling of the purchased device. Keep in mind that this process is designed to guarantee your satisfaction with the night vision device of your choice. It occasionally possible to expedite the process for urgent orders but addional fees or other restrictions may apply.

Question
I recently purchased a reap ir and am going to be running it inverted with a wilcox flip to side mount in order to place a rmr on top of the reap ir. My question is how do I rotate the screen on the reap ir so that it isn't upside down?
From Brad Bohot on May 23, 2017
Answer
Hi Brad. Unfortunately there is no such option as far as we know.
Question
Can the reap ir be used as a clip on in front of 4x acog? If yes how difficult is it to zero?
From Jim on Aug 13, 2017
Answer
hi Jim. Reap-IR thermal scope can be sued as a clip-on with daytime optics ranging from 1-4x in magnification. It is not hard to zero and the scope offer memory presets which help you go back to zero quickly when moving things around.
