Good so far
This is the first night vision and smart sight I've owned or used before. I haven't field tested it yet, just played around with it in my home so these are my initial impressions. I will try to update this after I get more time behind it. The basic operation of the sight is pretty intuitive and easy to use. The menus are easy to navigate. I updated the firmware right away and that was easy as well. I paired it with the iPhone app and the app is a little buggy. The screen would go blank and it was hard to get it to reconnect to the scope. The colors on the screen are a little off. I was looking at something orange and it came through red. It is easy to record video and take pictures. Mine came with some scratches on the focus ring that were painted over. Overall I think this is a good product but time will tell after I get to properly test it.

Great Product, some fixes needed
First, I want to say that this product is great for it's price point. Yes, there is much better NV out there, but for this price, it cannot be matched. The clarity of day and night is good, until you begin to zoom. It just started getting blotched and blurry. It's nothing that can be fixed. It's just when you zoom in on pixels, they lose clarity. So, for more clarity at longer distances, you may want to spend the extra $100 on the 5-18x. I purchased this product in January and received it last week. It did not come with an instruction manual, but it did come with an instruction guide on the basics. You will need to refer to the manual online at ATN's website. It is not uploaded to their site completely, since many of the features do not work properly yet or aren't available. Also, when you receive the product, you have to update it on a micro-SD card on your computer then transfer that firmware update to your device. Now to the product itself. It is very simple to use. The buttons are very self-explanatory. However, when you zero in your scope, your new zero will not be in the center of the screen. The reticle will be off to the side, depending on how much adjustment you needed. For example, mine is off-center to the left in down. When I zoom in all the way, the reticle goes further left and down to where it isn't on the screen anymore. It's frustrating, but this is going to be a fix in their next firmware update. The next thing is the IR attachment. It works well, but when you need to adjust it up/down or left/right, the allen wrench and screw holes are so tiny and weak. Mine stripped immediately. I will be contacting ATN to get a new one. They should have built it with larger and stronger pieces there. Basically, if it is not replaced, zoom is completely useless at night. My IR only lights up the bottom of the screen, since the wrench adjustment is stripped. The other problem was that my scope did not come with a lens cover. I contacted ATN and they are shipping me one at no charge. Also, if you are in the woods with this product hunting during the day, deer are hard to pick up. When I was out there, I saw deer at about 200 yards in the woods. I could see with my eyes, but looking at the deer in the screen in the scope was difficult. It's clear, but not near as clear as the pictures online show. When I zoomed in on it, it just became a blur. Now I saw some young bucks at 25-75 yards from me with no problem at all, but those longer distances are much harder to pick up. At night, those eyes on animals light up big time. I saw a rabbit at 50 yards and even a hog over 350 yards without much problem. Like I stated earlier, there is better NV out there, but this does the job, especially at this price. Again, with the IR screws stripping, I couldn't really zoom in much on this animals. I had to put the reticle above the animal to get a clear view of the animal at the bottom of the screen, since the IR was only shining at the bottom half. A couple tips, after updating firmware, put micro-SD card back into the computer and delete the update. It's already been installed on your scope, so you don't need it on the card. If you don't delete it, everytime you turn the scope on, it will ask you if you would like to do a firmware update. Next, be very gentle with those IR screws and you may have a chance at not stripping them. Finally, when turning the product off, right when the screen goes blue, let go of the power button, or else the scope will turn back on in a couple seconds, kind of like pressing a reset button. I know I said some bad stuff about the product. It's new, and many features are still not working properly or even available. But, 2 of my friends are ordering one after playing around with it. I do not regret buying it, as I know that firmware updates will correct most of the issues over the next few months. It's a great product that just needs a little bit of tweaking. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to spend thousands of dollars on optics for your rifle. And last, I want to say that nightvisionguys.com has done a great job with my first purchase from them. They were very helpful and wanted to help. They were honest and went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied with my purchase and the delivery of it.

seems pretty good
It is deer season, so it is not easy to find a place to zero this in properly. As such, I will have to update this review when I have had a chance to really field test. Initial observations, the unit appears solid and well built. everything appears to function correctly, however, the fine align allen screws on the IR are insufficient and WELL underbuilt for any reliability. This is one area that a 1/4 inch allen screw would have been a much better choice than a 1/32 screw. The instructions are minimal, it comes with batteries for the IR, but not the 4 AA batteries for the unit, nor the micro SD card needed to install the firmware. This is a cheezy and unprofessional way to register and track sales of the unit. ATN should have installed the firmware when it left the production facility. I would not hesitate to come back to Night Vision Guys for another purchase, but I will think VERY hard before looking at ATN. This unit took very nearly a YEAR to deliver and ATN ignored my email inquiries. NVG, on the other hand, went out of their way to stay in communication the entire time. Good customer service is hard to find-KUDOS NVG's!
