Gen 1 Night Vision
1st generation is currently the most popular type of night vision in the world. Utilizing the basic principles described in detail in our guide, a 1st generation unit will amplify the existing light several thousand times letting you clearly see in the dark. These units provide a bright and sharp image at a low cost, which is perfect, whether you are boating, observing wildlife, or providing security for your home. You may notice the following when you are looking through a 1st Gen. unit. A slight high-pitched whine when the unit is on. The image you see may be slightly blurry around the edges. This is known as Geometric Distortion. When you turn a 1st Gen. unit off it may glow green for some time. These are inherent characteristics of a 1st Gen. unit and are normal.

Outstanding unit for the money
Talked with Steve several times our a week and settled on the this scope. He was a great person to talk too. Supper fast shipping also. The scope works really good out to hundred yards with the IR light. I mounted my Green lazer onto gun and it even made it better at the 100 to 125 yards.

Armasight Orion 5X
My son and I bought two of your companies ORION 5x night vision rtifle scopes, GEN 1+. We at looked three of your competitors scopes and the Armasight came out the winner. The lighter weight and the more effient battery life were the big sellers for us, BUT the clarity and range are excellent and beat the other scopes hands down. We hunt Feral hogs and coyotes at night here in Texas. I live in an area that has many different terrain featues and the Orion hasn't let me down yet. Had an issue with a QRM, but your customer service is taking excellent care of me and my son. When we buy again we will buy ARMASIGHT for sure. Thank you for all your help. Walter H.

First Time Night Vision User Impressed
First off I want to thank NIGHT VISION GUYS they sent this thing as fast as the could when I ordered it. I used fedex and came thru with no issues. But to start off I was very skeptical after reading tons of forums bashing gen 1 products and how they were worthless. Well Ill tell you what I got this in today and waited til it got dark to test I can clearly see up to 150-200 with this . My purpose was only to kill some hogs that are disturbing my feeders and scaring my deer. 50 yard shot max. Wanted to solve that issue with night vision. Armasight Orion 5x is legit...might not be "military grade" but this sucka works. I think the main issue people might have is its big and bulky but I like that steady's the shot. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality night vision scope for anything up to 308 cal. I using this on a AR platform. Shooting 223/5.56. Glad I stuck with my gut and got this over any of the others. Just read the instructions when you get it and it explains all you need to know.

Armasight Orion exceeds it's price tag. Tested in the real world.
I recently purchased an Armasight Orion 5X gen1+ scope for hog hunting in south central FL. I wanted a budget minded optic that wouldn't fail me and spoil my hunt. I did my research (quite a few hours over a couple days) after reading reviews and watching videos I was leaning towards the Orion. What really sealed the deal for me was when I called Armasight and spoke with Steve B. I had some real novice night vision questions, Steve not only answered my questions he made me night vision savvy, he spent at least 30 minutes fielding my questions and gave me incredible information. The scope is very clear built very ruggedly and is engineered and manufactured very well. Before attempting to sight in I manually adjusted the windage and elevation by maxing out the clicks to find "zero click". I did this by turning the elevation adjustment all the way up then all the way down and did the same for the windage adjustment(all the way left and then right) being sure to count the amount of clicks. Once I did that I then adjusted the windage and elevation so that both were in the middle of total number of clicks(zero click). After zero clicking I sighted in starting at 25 yards then ending at 50 yards. The Orion can see well beyond 50 yards and be effective, but where I hog hunt a head shot is required, which I don't attempt at night beyond 50 yards(I know my limits). The key to making this scope live to it's potential is to use two illuminators, I had the one that came with the optic and another from Armasight both the standard 810mw illuminators which illuminated the target and the sounding area(absolute must). The Orion is robust and does add noticeable weight to your platform in the order of 5+lbs, the Orion stands up to .308 bolt action recoil and holds zero. The magnification and narrow field of view(part of all night vision) coupled with it's weight do not lend this optic to a setup for stalking style hunts. But from a stand or fixed position this optic is tops. To say the Orion 5x is "good for a Gen1+" or it is "good for the money" is selling the optic short". Allow me to fully recommend this optic and Armasight in general to anyone looking for a great company and NV products.

Armasight right on target
Being a first time night vision product buyer I was skeptical about finding a low cost quality rifle scope. The Armasight Orion put all that skepticism to rest. This scope is quality made and functions perfectly and to my surprise performs better than expected. My next purchase will be a set of Armasight binoculars. Great products for the price.

Question
Can the above scope be used in daylight?
From Bob Hart on Mar 17, 2014
Answer
No. Armasight Orion 5X is a standard Gen 1 night vision device which means that it will get damaged from direct light. Only digital night vision devices and thermal imagers can be used both during the day and at night.
Question
How do you sight this scope in if canot be used I'm daylight
From Steve Johnson on Apr 01, 2014
Answer
Hello, thank you for your question. You can sight the scope during the day with the lens cap on as it has a pinhole on the objective cover. I would recommend sighting the scope in at dusk. If you do it before dusk do not keep the unit on for more than five minutes at a time. Thank you.

From Richard Holt on Aug 14, 2014

From Brandon on Aug 20, 2015

Hi Brandon. Armasight Orion 5x is a Gen1 night vision scope. Gen1 tubes give you a pretty limited range. However, with the 5x magnification which Orion provides you can get around 75 yards for a mid size animal. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Question

From Sean on Feb 11, 2017
Answer
Hi Sean. I am not certain of the focal center height over the mount, but I know for a fact that many customers use this night vision scope on AR15 and are very happy. If you still need the information, please let us know and we will put you in touch with the manufacturer.
Question
My scope is loose on the mount, for example i can move the front part of the scope several millimeters.Everything is snug, all allen screws are tight, yet it still has motion.it is mounted on a picatinny rail ,and the problem seems to be front lens mounted to the back of the scope under the rubber coating,do i send it back to the factory? What can i do ? William
From william on Mar 09, 2017
Answer
Hi William. Please respond with your order number if you have that. Depending on how long ago you purchased the scope, different process would need to be followed.
Question
What type of doubler can you use on a Orion 5x to extend the viewing range and clarity? The original IR quit working for Orion 5x. What is the best IR I can replace it with for max range and clarity?
From Kenny on Jun 16, 2017
Answer
Hi Kenny. I am not sure about the doubler. I have not heard of people using those to improve clarity. As far as the IR, you can use any 850 unit but we have this one on hand at the moment and the price is great for the quality: http://www.nightvisionguys.com/exportable-night-vision/ir-illuminators/atn-ir850-pro-ir-illuminator
Question
Can it zoom in?
From Curtis on Nov 26, 2017
Answer
Hi Curtis. Armasight Orion is a fixed magnification night vision scope. Zoom is only available on digital night vision scopes like X-Sight, Drone, or Photon.
Question
The Armasight 5x gen 1 I purchased didn't come with the detachable IR illuminator, my question is will an ATN IR850 LONG RANGE illuminator work on this scope?
From Billy Merryman on Dec 20, 2017
Answer
Hi Billy. Did you buy a second hand unit? All new scopes should come with an IR illuminator. However, if you are looking for a supplemental IR, sure the ATN unit will do the trick.
