XLR-IR850 Detachable X-Long Range Infrared Illuminator w Rechargeable Battery and Charger
Armasight extra long-range infrared illuminators provide greater image intensified viewing capabilities for operations in little to no ambient light. Infrared illuminators are used in areas where the level of natural light is not sufficient. An IR illuminator provides near-infrared light which, although invisible to the naked eye, can greatly enhance the performance of night vision devices. The illuminator features adjustments for field of view divergence and output power. Armasight long-range IR illuminators significantly extend capabilities of night vision weapon sights and observation devices. Our new IR810W and IR850W units provide wide-range beam angle adjustment from 2-20 degrees, which drastically improves the performance of the IR illuminator and extends the user’s nighttime visibility range.

Not Bad For What I'm Using
Finally got around to checking this against my paltry 10 year old NV equipment, i.e. use with a Sony DCR TRV 510 (the one I believe was touted to highlight underwear under summer dresses if use Nightshot during daylight), and a Rigel Optics 1+ gen 1x binocular. Bought it for the Rigel and on 2 degree beam did a good job of highlighting at 40 yds. with an approximate spot diameter of 6 feet. Unfortunately had read a review on Amazon of this item by a soldier who used this item in Afghanistan but either made a typo or error doing the math. Said he guessed he got a focused beam good enough to aim by if his IR laser went out of around 12" at 80 meters. I'd have to assume that was 8 meters if my math is correct and I'm not going blind. But it's enough enhancement to clearly light my way out to a distance doing night activities. Certainly on broad focus indoors would light up a room or immediate camping area. Don't know about it would perform on newer equipment, e.g. regarding reports of making a gen 1+ more like a gen 2. Can only speculate it would be more useful on better equipment. For the fun of it the Sony 510 (digital hi8) was able to focus, eventually, on what was being illuminated on my 40 yard test; and in-between. So, it's useful for that purpose as well. FYI, seems the Sony Nightshot was more capable of picking up broader IR. A 980nm laser was picked up spot on but very faint after 15 yards with the Rigel. Well hope this helps someone, or gets me work as a technical writer.
