Thermal Imaging
Please note that most thermal devices are built per order. It may take 3-5 days or more for your order to ship. If timely shipping is important to you, please, contact us to verify availability prior to ordering.
Thermal devices can produce various types of images. Some are color others are monochrome. In either case change in shade or color indicates temperature differences.
Here is how thermal imaging devices work...
A special lens focuses the infrared light emitted by all of the objects in view.
The focused light is scanned by a phased array of infrared-detector elements. The detector elements create a very detailed temperature pattern called a thermogram. It only takes about one-thirtieth of a second for the detector array to obtain the temperature information to make the thermogram. This information is obtained from several thousand points in the field of view of the detector array.
The thermogram created by the detector elements is translated into electric impulses.
The impulses are sent to a signal-processing unit, a circuit board with a dedicated chip that translates the information from the elements into data for the display.
The signal-processing unit sends the information to the display, where it appears as various colors depending on the intensity of the infrared emission. The combination of all the impulses from all of the elements creates the image.
There are a few key Manufacturers when it comes to thermal imaging.
ATN: produce such well knows devies as ThOR-HD thermal scope, BINOX-THD thermal binoculars, and OTS-HD thermal monocular.
FLIR/Armasight: the largest maker of consumer level thermal products is well knows for their full product line. Zeus thermal scopes, Q14 and Scout monoculars, Helios and Scout binoculars and many more.
Pulsar: a very popular brand for digital night vision and thermal imaging. Key products include Pulsar Trail and Apex thermal scopes and Pulsar Helion and Quantum thermal monoculars.
Seek: mobile device mounted thermal cameras are the main products of this brand.
Delivery Time and Manufacturing Process for FLIR Thermosight Pro 4-16x50 60Hz PTS536 Thermal Weapon Sight with Boson 320x256:
Most of our manufacturers do not keep products like FLIR Thermosight Pro 4-16x50 60Hz PTS536 Thermal Weapon Sight with Boson 320x256 assembled on the shelf. Night Vision tubes are kept separate from the body of the unit. When the order is placed, the manufacturer starts the order processing and assembly process which includes the following:
- Order processing - we collect all the necessary information including address and phone numbers. We also make sure that our customer ordered the correct product for their needs and that the product can be exported by US law to the country of destination. In some cases a signed export compliance form is required.
- QC - in this step the manufacturer will inspect all individual parts which will be used to assemble the night vision device for any defects.
- Production & Assembly - during production, all the parts are put together. Night Vision tubes in inserted into the body of the unit and all the complex electronics for the device are connected. This process takes place in a special lab called the "clean room" as even a small speckle of dust can cause undesired optical effect.
- QA - one the night vision device is assembled, it goes through a rigorous testing process to make sure it meets all the expected specifications and all parts function as expected. For this most manufacturers have a special "dark room" designed to allow testing of the units without causing incidental damage to the night vision tube by exposure to bright light.
- Packaging - this is a key process as well. In most case your night vision device will be shipped to you directly from the manufacturer but sometimes needs to be sent to us first. In either case items need to be packaged securely to avoid any kind of damage during transportation.
- Shipping - as described above items will most of the time ship from the manufacturer. For most domestic orders (unless shipping to POB or AFB) a premium shipper like FedEx or UPS will be used.
Only by following the above steps can we along with our manufacturers bring you - our customer - night vision products of highest quality, However as you can understand the above process can take several days to complete. For example if your device fails QA, the entire process restarts. Also at QC stage a manufacturer may realize that the tube they have in stock has a defect and a replacement tube needs to be ordered. Due to the complexity of this process, it is prudent to expect 3-4 business days for production and handling of the purchased device. Keep in mind that this process is designed to guarantee your satisfaction with the night vision device of your choice. It occasionally possible to expedite the process for urgent orders but addional fees or other restrictions may apply.

My First Thermal Purchase
After shopping all around and watching hours upon hours of YouTube video i made the plunge. I talked with several dealers and honestly they were all very helpful. I made my purchase with NVG. Not only helpful and very knowledgeable, they had the very best price of anyone. I placed my order on 5/13 and received my thermal on 5/17 Friday. I zeroed it on Saturday and at 1 AM Sunday i put my first hog on the ground. A very nice sow. I love the clairity and ease of operating my Flir PTS536. I was shocked at how clear it is, and even more surprised how long the batteries last. I had use of a Predator 236 and it seemed like the batteries would only last a couple hours. Im still on the first set of batteries after zeroing and hunting for at least 3hours of on time and showing full charge. They must have improved something on battery drain. I highly reccomend Night Vision Guys, Felix, in sales and the PTS536. Im no professional hunter nor do i have a YouTube channel (yet) and i cant wait to get back out hunting!

That thing is awesome
I checked out the FLIR today and that thing is awesome. I have used a $60,000 FLIR thermal imaging camera at work and it doesn’t hold a candle to the definition this unit has.

Excellent Value, very pleased.
This FLIR PTS 536 is the real deal. The 4 power is perfect for the style of hunting I do. Accurately identifying a 500 yard target is no problem with this thermal. And yet it's field of view is broad enough for the 40 to 80 yard hog shots as well. The layout of the controls are simple to use. You can easily scroll thru the menu with no problem while looking down range. The included QD mount is well made. I have looked thru some 640 units and honestly the money difference to me is unjustifiable. This optic is well worth the price. In addition the folks at Night Vision Guys are top notch. Felix and crew are awesome. They truly will match a competitors price and work with you. I know this first hand. Much thank!!

Question
Will the new thermosight scope. 4-16x50 with boson. 320x256 be comparable to the armasight. 640x520 17 micron scopes with the same. 50 mm. Lense..just wondering about the performance or should I wait for the 640 units to come out...
From Dee on May 26, 2017
Answer
Hi Dee. I cannot tell you that a new core is going to make a 320 thermal scope perform the same as a 640 scope. You simply do not have as many pixels in that image. The real question is if you need the 640 resolution for what you will be trying to achieve with this unit. If you describe your hunting habits, we can tell you what parameters will be important.
Question
With the above question in mind, would you expect better performance with the 12 micron core as compared to the current 336 in 17 micron or be about the same?
From Wayne White on Jun 08, 2017
Answer
Hi Wayne. Smaller pixel size allows for a sharper image and clearer image.
Question
I have been waiting on the Flir boson core 12m since June (the 50mm). When will it be available? In April Flir started saying June, here it is August. I would like to know when because if it is going to be much longer I will go with another scope. Thank you and am looking forward to your answer.
From mike kuffler on Aug 10, 2017
Answer
Hi Mike. I understand your frustration. Unfortunately this is typical of night vision manufacturers. Often products are marketed ahead of time and then production process takes longer than anticipated. At this point we are expecting another 3 - 6 months before this scopes is on the market. If you are looking for a scope for this hunting season, you will probably need to get a different unit. Please let us know if we can suggest something and potentially offer a special discount.
Question
any idea of how much these are gonna cost?
From weston on Aug 28, 2017
Answer
Hi Weston. It is hard to be sure until the manufacturer releases them. It all depends on prices of other thermal scopes on the market at the time.
Question
Is the front lens adjustable on the 533?
From Pookie on Oct 14, 2017
Answer
Hi Pookie. by adjustable, do you mean ability to zoom thermosight scope using the front lens?
Question
Is the FLIR 30Hz or 60Hz?
From Winston on Feb 05, 2018
Answer
hi Winston. All models of FLIR Thermosight Pro thermal scopes with Boson are 60hz. We had old data on the page and have corrected it now. Thank you for pointing this out.
Question
Can you recommend a scope you have for sale now that’s comparable to the one in this thread? Thanks!
From Steve Kelly on Feb 12, 2018
Answer
hi Steve. In terms of capabilities, this one is probably the closest: https://www.nightvisionguys.com/armasight-zeus-3-thermal-riflescope-640-30-75mm-lens
Question
Does this PTS536 record audio
From Kenneth Klatt on Mar 24, 2018
Answer
Hi Kenneth. Thermosight Pro thermal scopes do not record audio. If this was important to you you would need to record audio on a standalone device and then match the streams in some video editor.
Question
Does this scope have a built in range finder?
From Joe Thomas on Apr 21, 2018
Answer
Hi Joe. FLIR Thermosight Pro thermal scopes do not have a built in rangefinder but do have a connector port for external optional Laser Range Finder Connections.
Question
Is this thermal waterproof or is it just water resistant?
From Michael on Apr 26, 2018
Answer
Hi Michael. Officially FLIR Thermosight Pro thermal scopes are rated as waterproof. Naturally this does not mean that you should soak it in water. However, it will be fine if exposed to heavy rain dropped into a puddle.
Question
when is flir going to release the PTS536
From Kevin on May 31, 2018
Answer
Hi Kevin. We are expecting a shipment from FLIR of Thermosight PTS536 to be sent on Friday which means we will be able to ship towards the end of next week. That's based on what FLIR is telling us currently. With that shipment we will have enough to cover a couple of new orders if they are placed soon. So if you are in the market for this scope, I suggest to not delay.
Question
Hello - I see it says there are "laser range finder connections". Can you explain more about that? What brand is compatible? Does Flir have a specific range finder in mind? Will my Sig Kilo1400 work with it? I'm strongly interested in this scope but integration with a range finder (or not) is a dealbreaker for me and if it's not easy to set up and clean to work with I'll go to a different product. Thanks!
From Brett on Aug 17, 2018
Answer
Hi Brett. The laser rangefinder connections are for a FLIR unit which has not been released yet. If you need one, I would suggest a Zeus Pro unit which you can get the external rangefinder for. It is trivial to integrate them.
